Al Raha Beach was genuinely Aldar’s single biggest bet of the entire 2000s: launched back in 2006 at an estimated $14.7 billion, stretched across roughly 11 kilometres of shoreline, with around 70% of it built on reclaimed land and islands. Getting your bearings at Al Raha Beach
Built almost entirely on reclaimed land and islands stitched together with bridges and canals, the community strings along the coast in a series of canal-side precincts and marinas, anchored by Al Raha Mall — open and trading since 2007, roughly 35,000 square metres in size with more than 100 stores, a small two-screen cinema and a dedicated play zone for younger kids — right beside the airport and a short drive from Yas Island.
Al Bandar’s marina, and the quieter precincts
Al Bandar carries the marina — 131 berths for boats from 6.5 to 24 metres, developed by Aldar and managed by Art Marine as one of its Superyacht-accredited marinas — plus the clubhouse and most of the shopping and dining; Al Muneera and Al Zeina are noticeably calmer again, closer to low-rise villas and private beach access than to any passing footfall, and Al Raha Gardens adds a townhouse-heavy residential pocket further inland, with villas there generally built around private gardens and shared community pools rather than direct beach frontage. Beaches, marinas and promenades fill an easy day here, and the theme parks of Yas Island are next door whenever you want more energy.

A 278-room beach hotel with its own villas

Airport-adjacent, and best in the cooler months
Right by Abu Dhabi airport and Yas Island, it is best reached by taxi or car — about 40 minutes from Dubai, 25 minutes from central Abu Dhabi, and just 20 minutes from Yas Island itself, with the Yas Express shuttle bus (route A1) also stopping right outside. The cooler months from October through to April are by far the most ideal for the beaches and the long marina promenades; this is very much a corner of the capital better suited to slow, unhurried days by the water than to big nights out — so pack accordingly for the beach and the marina walk rather than for any real night scene here.
