The tower that’s still, technically, on hold
Construction on the planned Dubai Creek Tower began back in October 2016, with a design once intended to surpass the Burj Khalifa. It has sat paused through a lengthy redesign since, though Emaar’s founder said in early 2026 that a construction tender would launch within months, with the focus now on architectural refinement rather than sheer height. Nothing is built above ground yet, so treat any completion date you read elsewhere with caution. Around it, the promenade and marina keep developing regardless, arranged with the Downtown skyline as a permanent backdrop and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary directly across the water.
Ras Al Khor: the city’s wild side
Across the water sits the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a Ramsar-listed wetland since 2015 that’s home to more than 200 recorded bird species, flamingos among them. Three free public hides let you watch them from close range, best from October to April, though fed birds mean some sightings even in summer. Eating along the Creek Boardwalk
The 4.5km Creek Boardwalk that runs the length of the district is where the district’s dining scene actually lives, and it’s grown well past a handful of cafes. Where to stay: two Vidas, one lagoon
Vida Creek Harbour sits directly on the promenade with rooms looking over the water or the marina, and direct access to the boardwalk and a berth for visiting yachts. A short walk along it, Vida Creek Beach is the newer, more boutique of the two — 99 rooms and suites, four in-house dining spots, a co-working corner called Stage2, and an infinity pool set beside a man-made Crystal Lagoon that’s become one of the district’s better-known photo spots. Neither is a resort in the Palm sense; both are built for a quieter, work-meets-weekend stay 15 minutes from Downtown and the airport.
Best reached by car, best seen at sunset
Best reached by car or taxi as transport links continue to develop, with Downtown a short drive away. The cooler months from October to April suit both the promenade and the flamingos across the water, and sunset is unbeatable for the skyline.
