To check a UAE visa, use the authority that issued it—not the emirate where you happen to be standing. Use GDRFA Dubai for a Dubai-issued entry permit or residence file. Use ICP for visas issued by Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah.

Choose the inquiry that matches your question: an application-status check shows whether a pending request is progressing, while a file-validity check shows details for an issued entry permit or residence file. The official fields, links and contact numbers below were verified on 29 July 2026.

Which UAE visa checker should you use?

Your visa or applicationCorrect authorityBest official route
    Dubai-issuedGDRFA DubaiGDRFA application/file status inquiry
Abu Dhabi-issuedICPICP File Validity or application tracking
Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah-issuedICPICP Smart Services
Emirates ID applicationICP, but a different checkerICP ID Card Status
Job offer or labour contractMOHRE, not a visa-validity checkerUse the official MOHRE enquiry relevant to the document

This split is the most important part of the process. A person can live in Dubai while holding a file issued elsewhere, or be outside the UAE checking a Dubai-issued permit. The issuing authority shown on the visa, application receipt or sponsor’s transaction record determines the checker.

Application status, visa validity and Emirates ID status are different

What you need to knowUse this checkTypical reference
Has a new visa or residence request been approved, returned or completed?Application trackingApplication/request number; Dubai also asks for transaction number and payment date
Is an issued entry permit or residence file valid, expired or cancelled?File or visa validityPassport details or visa file details, depending on the authority and search mode
Is an Emirates ID application still being processed?ID Card StatusPRAN, IDN or request number
Is a job offer genuine?MOHRE job-offer enquiryJob-offer or transaction number

A screenshot from the wrong checker can look official while answering the wrong question. Before searching, decide whether you are tracking a pending transaction or checking an already-issued file.

How to check a UAE visa through ICP

ICP covers federal immigration services for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

For an issued visa or residence file

    1. Open the official ICP File Validity page.
    2. Select the appropriate search method, such as Passport Information or file details.
    3. Choose the relevant module: visa, residency or Emirates ID, where the interface offers that choice.
    4. For a passport search, enter the passport number, passport expiry date and nationality exactly as shown in the passport.
    5. Complete the verification control and select Search.
    6. Read the result carefully, including file status, issue or validity date, expiry date and any cancellation date displayed.

The live ICP page also supports other routes such as unified number, file number or identity number. Use the route for which you have complete, reliable information; do not guess missing parts of a file number.

    For a pending ICP application

If you applied while signed in, ICP says you can open My Applications or My Requests in the account. Its current FAQ also directs applicants to the Smart Services application-tracking option and says the application number begins with 010.

If a travel agency, airline, typing centre, employer or family sponsor submitted the request, ask that party for the actual application number and submission receipt. A verbal “under process” is not a substitute for a trackable government reference.

How to check a Dubai visa through GDRFA

For a Dubai-issued entry permit or residence file, use GDRFA Dubai’s official inquiry. The page contains separate search modes for an application, a file and other GDRFA services.

    Track a pending Dubai application

    1. Open the GDRFA status inquiry.
    2. Select Application.
    3. Enter the application number.
    4. Enter the transaction number.
    5. Enter the payment date shown on the receipt.
    6. Submit the search and compare the response with the transaction you intended to check.

Dubai’s official city portal confirms those three fields for an application-status check and describes the response as a real-time application update.

    Check an issued Dubai file

    1. On the same GDRFA inquiry, select File.
    2. Enter the first name in English.
    3. Enter the visa file number.
    4. Select nationality.
    5. Enter the date of birth.
    6. Submit the inquiry.

Those fields are for file validity, not the pending-application search. Enter names and dates exactly as they appear in the immigration record; transliteration differences can prevent a match.

What details should you have ready?

    • Passport number, including every letter and digit
    • Passport expiry date
    • Nationality recorded on the application
    • Date of birth
    • Visa file or unified number, if available
    • Application/request number
    • For a Dubai application, the transaction number and payment date
    • Emirates ID or PRAN only when checking the relevant ID or identity route

Use the passport linked to the visa. If a passport was renewed after the file was created, the record may still be tied to the previous passport number; contact the issuing authority rather than entering random variations.

How to read the result without making the wrong decision

Focus on the labelled fields returned by the government service:

    • Application status relates to the request you submitted. It is not automatically proof that the issued permit is ready to use.
    • File status relates to the immigration file and may show whether it is active, expired, closed or cancelled.
    • Issue date is not always the same as the final date on which the holder may enter or remain.
    • Expiry or validity date must be read in context: an entry permit’s validity before first entry is different from the permitted stay after entry.
    • Cancellation date, if displayed, should be treated as a material change to the file; ask the authority or sponsor if the reason is unclear.

Save a PDF or screenshot showing the date and reference, but recheck near travel or an employment deadline. Immigration status can change after a screenshot is taken.

No record found: a seven-point diagnosis

    Possible causeWhat to check
Wrong authorityConfirm whether the file is Dubai-issued or ICP-issued.
Wrong inquiry typeSwitch between application tracking and file validity only when that matches the document.
Typing mismatchRe-enter passport number, English name, nationality and dates exactly.
Old passportCheck whether the visa record is tied to a previous passport.
Incomplete file numberUse every segment and separator shown on the official document.
Application not yet availableAsk the submitting party for the official receipt and confirm that submission actually occurred.
Portal or session problemRetry from the official entry page, use a current browser, or contact the authority.

Do not hand passport details to an unofficial “free checker” to solve a no-result screen. The government routes already provide the relevant inquiry.

What a visa-status check does not prove

A valid-looking visa result does not independently confirm all of the following:

    • that a job offer or recruitment request is genuine;
    • that the holder has no travel ban, police case or court restriction;
    • that an airline will accept every document at check-in;
    • that the passport meets the remaining-validity rule for a particular journey;
    • that an employer completed a separate labour or work-permit process; or
    • that entry is guaranteed, because the final immigration decision is made at the border.

Use the right government authority for each question. In particular, never work on a visit or tourist visa, and verify an employment offer through the relevant official labour channel as well as checking the immigration file.

    Official UAE visa-status contacts

    • ICP: 600 522 222 inside the UAE; +971 600 522 222 from outside the UAE.
    • GDRFA Dubai: 800 5111 inside the UAE; +971 4 313 9999 from outside the UAE.

Have the passport, application receipt and file reference ready before calling. Do not publish these identifiers in a public comment, forum or social-media post.

    Privacy and visa-fraud safeguards

    • Open ICP, GDRFA, Dubai.ae or u.ae directly; check the domain before entering data.
    • Do not send a passport scan, Emirates ID or one-time password to a stranger offering to “unlock” a result.
    • Ask any agent or sponsor for the government transaction receipt and reference number.
    • Do not pay for a supposed job or rely on a tourist visa for employment.
    • Redact passport and file numbers before sharing a screenshot with anyone who does not need the full data.

    Bottom line

Use GDRFA for Dubai-issued files and ICP for the other six emirates. Then choose the correct layer: application tracking for a pending request, file validity for an issued visa or residence, and ID Card Status for an Emirates ID application. That simple authority-and-document check prevents most dead ends and exposes vague claims from agents who cannot provide a real transaction reference.
