For a first everyday New Balance, I’d start with a 574. For an outfit built around the shoe, I’d choose the 9060. For running, I’d leave both on the lifestyle shelf and compare the actual running range. Those are different jobs, not a contest to find one model that wins everything.
The 574’s relatively straightforward shape is the appeal for me: denim, relaxed trousers, a plain tee, done. The 9060 is the opposite choice—let the exaggerated sole be noticed. A 990 belongs on the shortlist when you particularly want its layered design and the specific version’s construction, not because a higher price automatically buys the best fit.

Cushioning names: useful specifications, not a comfort ranking
I would not shop by the softest-sounding name. A cushioning family can change between products, and the upper, geometry, outsole and fit still affect the shoe you get. Use the exact model page:
- FuelCell: the Rebel v5 specifies a PEBA/EVA blend. That does not establish the formulation in every other FuelCell shoe.
- Fresh Foam X: the 860v15 combines it with Stability Plane. Do not substitute another brand’s support terminology or an old version’s construction.
- Infinion: the current 1080v15 uses this foam. Calling every 1080 a Fresh Foam X model is out of date.
- ENCAP: the 574 Core listing describes soft foam with a polyurethane rim; the 990v6 also lists ENCAP alongside FuelCell.
- ABZORB: the 1000 lists it at the heel and forefoot, with a Stability Web midfoot shank. That identifies components, not a promise of relief from foot pain.
- C-CAP or other legacy labels: if an older listing uses one, check that edition’s specification. Do not infer the entire midsole from a technology name printed in an unrelated model guide.
New Balance dates its business to 1906, but the founding year would not decide my purchase. The details of the pair in front of me would. Nor would I turn the brand’s performance language into a claim that its shoes prevent injuries. This guide is not a clinical assessment.
The lifestyle models: which shape I’d actually choose
574: my uncomplicated starting point
The 574 Core specification identifies suede/mesh and ENCAP. My preference is a restrained colour against dark denim or relaxed neutral trousers. I like that it does not require the whole outfit to become a sneaker display. If you find it too ordinary, the 9060 or 1000 makes a more deliberate statement.
That recommendation is about design and wardrobe use, not a promise of all-day comfort. A model’s broad-looking toe does not prove the internal room suits you. Check the actual size, width and edition; a children’s shoe with the same family name need not share every adult specification.
990 and the wider 99x family: choose the version, not just “grey New Balance”
The 990 began in 1982 and has changed through successive versions. I would choose one for its particular layering and proportions, not treat a v3 and v6 as interchangeable offers. The 990v6 specification lists FuelCell and ENCAP; that does not make it the softest or most durable 990 by default.
New Balance describes its Made in USA footwear as having 70% or more domestic value. That is not “every component made in America”, nor a statement about every New Balance shoe. Read the exact origin and materials. The linked U990NC6 example explicitly lists pig leather, a detail worth checking if material origin affects your choice.
The 992 has its own profile and collaboration history; it is not simply a more expensive 574. For specific examples, our Salehe Bembury 992 guide and Action Bronson 992 coverage discuss particular designs. A collaboration name would not persuade me to accept the wrong size.
1000: the angular option I’d wear with a quieter outfit
New Balance dates the original 1000 to 1999. The reissue’s mesh underlays, prominent synthetic panels and segmented sole are why I would choose it over a 574 for a more technical-looking outfit. Straight trousers and a simple top would be enough; I would not add several competing futuristic accessories.
Its listed ABZORB and Stability Web are construction details. They do not convert the reissued lifestyle shoe into the obvious choice for current running training. Keep the fashion decision separate from the training decision.
9060, 2002R, 1906R, 550 and 327
The 9060’s scaled-up proportions are the point, not a flaw to hide. I would wear it with enough trouser width to balance the sole, rather than bury it beneath a hem. If you want a slimmer visual result, start elsewhere.
The 2002R and 1906R offer layered running-inspired looks; the 550 brings a basketball-derived profile. For the 327, the oversized side logo and wedge-like outline are the design reasons to consider it. I would compare those shapes in the colour I actually wanted, not assume that “retro runner” means identical feel or current running suitability.
If searching older X-90 listings, treat them as a separate archive purchase. New Balance Japan’s 2018 company announcement places the model in that period. An old model page is not evidence of present UAE stock, current materials in every edition or a new release.
For running: compare current versions, not the brand’s general reputation
The UAE Rebel v5 page identifies a neutral shoe for everyday and quicker runs, with a PEBA/EVA blend and an approximately 6mm drop. The 1080v15 page identifies Infinion foam. The 860v15 specifies Fresh Foam X and Stability Plane. Those distinctions are a useful starting point for a fitting, not evidence that one works for every runner.
I would bring the intended use into the shop: regular road runs, faster sessions or trail running require different questions. For an 880 or another version not examined here, read that exact product’s current specification rather than borrow the 1080’s foam or the 860’s support description. A 990’s running heritage is not a prescription for today’s training.
If pain, an injury history or a specific support requirement is driving the purchase, get an appropriate professional assessment. The old article promised optimal performance and injury prevention; the sources do not justify that promise. A shop fitting can help compare shoes without being a medical diagnosis.
Size and width: the label needs a scale attached
The UAE size-and-width guide separates US men’s/unisex, US women’s, UK and EU columns. “Size 8” alone is incomplete. I would write the scale beside the number when comparing two offers.
The chart labels men’s standard width D and wide 2E; women’s standard is B and wide D. That makes D a different width category across the two labelled ranges. Availability still depends on the model, size and colour. Do not infer that every UAE listing offers every width because the general chart shows it.
- Measure both feet and use the exact product’s chart. Bring any usual socks or prescribed insert into the fitting discussion.
- Check the whole fit: toe room, side pressure, midfoot and heel hold. A width option is not useful if the rest of the fit is wrong.
- Try both shoes and move within the shop’s permitted fitting conditions. Do not wear a returnable online order outside to test it.
- Do not force a size rule: a half-size change that fixes one pressure point can create another problem. No single “always size up” rule covers the range.
- Keep the size/width/code together when comparing colours, labelled ranges or another seller’s offer.
I would not choose from a sweeping claim that men’s shoes are built for power or women’s shoes all have a particular arch shape. The size chart and actual fitting are more useful than that marketing split.
UAE prices: dated examples, not promises of your size
The official pages checked on 19 October displayed the following examples. Colour selection can change a page’s style and price; confirm the exact code before ordering.

No listed size or basket was selected for this comparison. The prices establish what the pages displayed, not stock in your size, a successful checkout or a reservation. I would rather buy the right version at a clear price than chase the largest percentage on a different shoe.
Delivery, returns and the exchange detail I would not miss
The UAE shipping page lists standard delivery at AED25, free delivery on orders over AED199, and an estimated 2–3 working days. These are this online store’s terms, not another retailer’s promise or a guarantee for every address. Check the address and final charge at checkout.
My small-basket rule: do the sum before adding an item for free shipping. At hypothetical prices, an AED180 basket plus AED25 delivery totals AED205. Add an unwanted AED30 item and the basket reaches AED210 even if delivery becomes free. You have spent AED5 more, not saved AED25. This is illustrative arithmetic, not an actual offer.
The UAE return policy states 14 days from receipt, with items in original, new condition, packaging and tags. Shipping fees are non-refundable. It lists 3–5 business days for processing after receipt and up to 10 business days after refund submission, depending on the payment provider.
An online size change is not a direct exchange. The retailer’s exchange FAQ says return for a refund and place a new order. Its store-return FAQ says online orders cannot currently be returned in-store. I would not order two uncertain sizes assuming a walk-in swap settles everything.
A defect complaint is different from changing your mind about fit. Keep the invoice, code and photographs and contact the seller. If buying elsewhere, use that seller’s actual terms; the UAE official website’s policy is not a universal warranty for the brand.
Authenticity: use the brand’s process, not a universal glue-and-logo test
A good box, matching code or neat stitching can be copied. A glue mark alone does not prove a fake. I would start with who is selling and fulfilling the order, then establish the exact model, condition and dispute route. Low price is a reason to investigate, not a complete authentication.
New Balance’s counterfeit guidance says a QR-code system began replacing tongue-label data matrices from May 2025. Follow the brand’s instructions to reach its authentication microsite and compare the displayed details with the physical shoe. A code taking you to an ordinary shopping page is not the process it describes.
The same guidance says shoes manufactured before May 2025 do not have that QR code and cannot use that self-authentication route. I would not reject an older pair solely for lacking a new label. Check the manufacturing context rather than apply a current-label rule to every archive shoe. The brand’s counterfeit-reporting email is not a service for individual authentication requests.
For resale or marketplace shopping, save actual-item photographs, the listing, seller identity and payment record. Do not treat a platform logo as the seller’s identity or assume a general verification badge resolves every issue. I have not authenticated the pairs pictured in this article.
Apparel, outlets and local shopping: buy the thing you need
I would not buy a whole matching kit because I liked one pair of shoes. For running apparel, check the individual fabric, fit, pocket arrangement and care instructions. A lifestyle hoodie and a technical running top have different purposes; the logo does not make them interchangeable.
For an outlet or sale, compare the exact version and condition with a normal-price offer. Do not assume every outlet item is a factory second or an exclusive bargain. A seasonal-sale label does not guarantee the lowest price or the colour and width you wanted. US sales, dollar prices and overseas retailer examples are not UAE checkout terms.
For a first fit in a new model, I would favour trying it locally. Use the official UAE store finder and the Dubai store guide, then call the actual branch about your model, size and width. A map listing is not stock confirmation; online availability is not branch availability.
My verdict: make the model earn its place in your wardrobe
The 574 remains my simplest everyday starting point; the 9060 is my choice when the shoe is meant to be noticed. I would choose the 1000 for its angular styling and a specific 990 for the version’s design—not because “premium” settles comfort or value. For running, use the current specification and fitting, not the lifestyle hierarchy.
Shortlist by purpose, get the fit right, then compare the full UAE offer.
