Fireworks light up the sky from Ras Al Khaimah to the capital, malls throw concerts, and the streets fill with flags, fanfare and family picnics. The displays are spectacular, but the crowds are serious. Here is where to catch the best fireworks across the Emirates, roughly when they go off, and how to see them without spending your evening stuck in traffic.
When are the National Day fireworks?
National Day falls on 2 December, with celebrations usually spilling across a long weekend either side. Most fireworks displays kick off between 8pm and 9pm, and many popular spots run shows on both 2 and 3 December. Because timings shift slightly year to year, it is always worth checking the venue’s own channels on the day — but the locations below are the reliable, returning favourites.
Where to watch fireworks in Dubai
- The Beach, JBR — a longtime favourite, with fireworks over the water around 9pm and an easy, open shoreline to spread out on.
- Bluewaters Island — free displays off the boardwalk on the beach side, with Ain Dubai as a backdrop.
- Global Village — nightly fireworks across the National Day weekend, usually around 9pm, often paired with a drone show.
- Downtown Dubai & Burj Khalifa — the tallest building in the world puts on a synchronised LED light show with fireworks; arrive early, as this is the busiest spot in the city.
- Dubai Festival City Mall — reliable early fireworks around 8pm, frequently followed by a live concert.
Where to watch fireworks in Abu Dhabi
- Yas Bay Waterfront — cultural activities plus fireworks over the water on both 2 and 3 December, typically from 9pm.
- Emirates Palace — an elegant display around 9.15pm as part of a wider celebration, best enjoyed from the Corniche side.
- The Corniche — the classic capital vantage point, with wide open promenades ideal for families.
- Bawabat Al Sharq Mall, Baniyas — an earlier show around 8pm, handy if you are out east.
Where to watch fireworks in Sharjah
- Al Majaz Waterfront — one of the finest views in the country, with fireworks bursting above the Sharjah Fountain and lagoon.
- Al Seef, Sharjah — celebrations often begin around 8.30pm, with the historic creek making a gorgeous backdrop.
Beating the crowds: our local tips
- Take the Metro. Around Downtown, Marina and JBR, the roads gridlock long before the first firework. The Metro and tram are far quicker, and stations near the big displays get very busy on the way out — so pace yourself.
- Arrive early. For headline spots like Burj Khalifa, a good vantage point is gone a couple of hours before showtime. Bring snacks and settle in.
- Pick a second-tier spot. Bluewaters, Al Majaz and the Corniche deliver stunning displays with a fraction of the Downtown crush.
- Plan your exit. Everyone leaves at once. Either linger for 30–45 minutes after the finale, or position yourself near a clear route out.
- Go for the whole evening. Most venues layer on live music, food stalls and light shows, so make a night of it rather than dashing in for the fireworks alone.
Wherever you end up, National Day is one of the best nights of the year to be in the UAE — a proper celebration of the country’s story, lit up in gold and red across every emirate.
