Popverse’s 2 May 2025 account of The Hollywood Reporter’s reporting described Reynolds exploring treatments involving three or four X-Men, with Deadpool more on the sidelines. Our reading is that this changes the creative question. Instead of asking how to make Wade’s next solo crisis bigger, the film could use his interruptions against another character’s objective. The advantage would be contrast: a character trying to be taken seriously and a character who keeps breaking the frame. That is an editorial interpretation, not a description of a script we have seen.
It could also go wrong. If every other character exists only to react to Deadpool’s jokes, calling him supporting would change little. The more convincing test would be whether another character makes consequential decisions, has an emotional stake and retains a scene that does not depend on Wade delivering the punchline.
Gambit is already part of the screen conversation
Channing Tatum’s Gambit appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. The Motion Picture Association’s The Credits coverage discusses that debut and the long-unrealised standalone project.
