The issuer reports BWOW closed and liquidated on 22 October 2026. Read the dated notices and check cash-redemption entries with your broker.
The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF story has moved beyond a filing—and beyond a planned closure. BWOW launched in November 2025; the issuer now reports that it closed and liquidated the fund on 22 October 2026. As checked on 28 October, the relevant question for a former holder is how the redemption appears in their brokerage account, not whether this particular fund will launch.
This article began as January 2025 coverage. The original publication date is preserved, but the guide below distinguishes the proposal, launch and closure stages. It also separates the Dogecoin token, a fund holding that token and the US government’s DOGE initiative. Those are not interchangeable things.

What the current BWOW notice says
The Form 8-K dated 10 September 2026 states that secondary-market trading would stop before the market opened on 15 October 2026. It schedules liquidation proceeds on or about 22 October 2026. This September filing records the planned process. The issuer’s later completion statement is a separate update; neither is a check of an individual brokerage account.
The fund’s own website now states that the adviser closed and liquidated BWOW on 22 October 2026. It says shares not sold by 14 October were automatically redeemed for cash based on net asset value, with redemption provided through brokers or other intermediaries on or around 22 October. That is the issuer’s statement, not our independent confirmation of every cash credit. Check the broker’s communication and statement for your own position.

From proposed product to reported liquidation
| Stage | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|
| January 2025 coverage | The original article discussed an early proposal. A Delaware registration alone was not an exchange launch. |
| 25 November 2025 announcement | Bitwise announced BWOW and said exchange trading would begin on 26 November 2025. |
| 10 September 2026 filing | The sponsor announced its decision to close, delist and liquidate this fund. |
| 15 October 2026 trading halt schedule | The filing said trading and creation of new shares would stop before market open. |
| 22 October 2026 reported liquidation | The issuer now reports completion and cash redemption through intermediaries on or around that date. Match the account entry with the broker. |
The launch step is documented by Bitwise’s original announcement; the later closure supersedes it as practical guidance about this product’s current availability. A search result that still shows a launch story can be historically accurate and operationally out of date.

If you hold BWOW: useful checks, not a trading instruction
- Confirm the exact ticker and account position. This notice concerns BWOW, not every product with Dogecoin exposure.
- Read the issuer’s latest notice alongside your broker’s message and match the redeemed position with the cash entry shown on your statement.
- Keep the purchase confirmations, fees, transaction history and closure correspondence.
- Ask the broker about its processing timetable and any relevant account charges rather than assuming every intermediary posts proceeds at the same moment.
- If tax consequences matter to you, obtain advice for your circumstances and any other country to which you have obligations. A US issuer’s tax wording is not an individual UAE tax ruling.
The deadline described for selling shares before the halt is already in the past as of this guide’s check date. We are not suggesting that a reader can now execute a sale through a market the notice says has closed. Questions about a remaining account position belong with the broker and issuer.

An exchange-traded wrapper does not remove token risk
Buying shares in a product that holds Dogecoin is different from holding DOGE in a wallet. The account arrangement, expenses, trading access and treatment on closure differ. An exchange listing is not a promise that the investment is conservative or suitable for a particular person.
Bitwise’s launch disclosures warned of substantial volatility and possible complete loss, and explained that BWOW was not registered under the US Investment Company Act of 1940. It therefore did not have the same protections as funds registered under that Act. The word ETF should not be used as shorthand for a capital guarantee.
Nor does one fund’s closure establish that Dogecoin has stopped operating, that every Dogecoin product is closing or that its token price must move in a particular direction. Those claims would require different evidence. This guide makes no price target or comparison implying that Bitcoin ETF flows will repeat in Dogecoin.

Dogecoin and the US DOGE initiative are different
The 20 January 2025 executive order renamed the United States Digital Service and established a temporary DOGE organisation within the Executive Office of the President. That institutional action did not turn the Dogecoin token into a government currency or create a government guarantee of its price.
A shared acronym, a public figure’s interest or a meme can attract attention. None is a substitute for evidence about the fund, legal rights, custody or actual investor demand. The retained illustrations and historical chart should be read as context, not proof of current holdings, official endorsement or future returns.

The UAE reader’s decision framework
Separate three checks before relying on any cross-border crypto-product story: what the underlying asset is, what legal product gives the exposure, and what your actual provider allows you to do. A product being listed in the US does not, by itself, establish that a UAE-based broker offers it or that it suits your account.
| Question | Evidence to ask for |
|---|---|
| What am I buying or holding? | Exact product name, ticker, issuer and current prospectus or closure notice. |
| Who handles my position? | The actual contracting broker and custodian arrangements relevant to the account. |
| What are the costs and exit conditions? | Applicable account fees, product expenses, trading status and closure instructions. |
| Which claims are only sentiment? | Unverified price targets, celebrity associations and predictions of institutional demand. |
Our editorial conclusion is about the quality of the decision, not whether to buy another token or fund. The useful lesson is to check the latest operational filing before acting on a compelling launch narrative. Sources and editorial scope
The closure status was updated on 28 October 2026 against the fund’s current completion statement and the September SEC filing. The historical background uses the linked launch announcement and January 2025 executive order. We have not inspected a reader’s brokerage account, confirmed individual cash receipt, measured today’s Dogecoin demand or made an investment recommendation. Questions answered
Is Bitwise’s Dogecoin ETF still just a proposal?
No. Bitwise announced BWOW’s launch in November 2025, and a September 2026 SEC filing later announced its closure and liquidation. The current closure notice is more relevant than the original proposal coverage.
When is BWOW’s liquidation payment scheduled?
The issuer now reports that BWOW closed and liquidated on 22 October 2026, with remaining shares redeemed for cash based on net asset value through brokers or intermediaries on or around that date. Check your own broker’s statement; this guide does not confirm an individual payment.
Does BWOW’s closure mean Dogecoin is closing?
No. This notice concerns a particular exchange-traded product, not the operation of the Dogecoin token or every other product offering exposure to it.
