Kahoot! is a quiz and learning platform used for hosted games and self-paced assignments. If someone has invited you to play, you usually need the host’s current PIN, link or QR code—not a paid subscription. If you are organising the session, your account, audience size and chosen features need a separate check.
Its attraction is straightforward: a question becomes a shared activity with visible feedback rather than another slide to watch. That can start a conversation, but noise, speed and a leaderboard do not by themselves establish that people learned anything. The best use depends on the question and what happens after the answer.
Joining a game: the short version
According to Kahoot’s joining guide, open kahoot.it or the app and enter the host’s PIN, or use their direct link or QR code. Follow prompts for a nickname, identifier or security step. Most games do not require a player account; host settings can add requirements.
The PIN belongs to that particular session. If it fails, ask the organiser for the current one and confirm the game is active. A saved screenshot from last week is not a reusable invitation. A QR code skips typing the PIN, not any additional joining requirements.
How to host a live Kahoot
The current official hosting instructions give this route:
- Sign in to the account that will host, then open a checked quiz from Library or Discover.
- Select Host live, choose the available experience and review its settings.
- Share the current PIN, direct link or QR code with the intended players. Wait for the group you expect, then select Start.
- For a remote group, share the host screen through your approved video-call tool. Kahoot says the scoreboard and correct-answer display still need that screen, even when questions appear on players’ devices.
Keep the PIN inside the intended group rather than posting it publicly: unwanted players or bots can join. Use Preview to rehearse, but check the real account capacity separately. For a UAE office session, put the start time and time zone in the invitation and test the participant view, not only the presenter’s laptop.
If the PIN fails or a player disconnects

A live session works when the group can take part together. An assignment can suit different schedules. Choose the format before sending the invitation, especially when a UAE team includes colleagues in other time zones. State the start time and time zone explicitly; “7pm” in a multinational chat is an avoidable ambiguity.
For a first activity, keep the scope small enough to review properly. We would prefer five checked questions with a reason behind each answer to a long quiz assembled from unreviewed public material. Read any shared quiz yourself: popularity is not a fact-check or proof that its examples fit your audience.
Is Kahoot free, and how many players can join?
Kahoot has different school, home and business plans. Check the official participant-limit guide against the actual account and game you will host; a limit quoted for a family account is not a universal classroom or workplace allowance. The connectivity guide distinguishes a network-speed estimate from a subscription allowance and marks its account-plan test as not yet functional. Do not use a connection-test result as confirmation that your account admits the whole group.
Before buying, compare the intended use, participant capacity, paid question/media features, billing period and cancellation terms. A low per-month figure may describe a longer billing commitment. Read the actual checkout; this article has not verified an individual UAE subscription quote or tested every plan.
For example, a planned session for 28 colleagues cannot be validated by opening a preview with two phones. That checks only part of the setup. Confirm the account capacity for the whole group, the venue’s connection and how people will read the questions. Keep a non-app fallback such as the same questions on slides if participation fails. This is a planning recommendation, not a measured network benchmark.
Arabic support: the useful distinction for UAE groups
Kahoot’s language guidance distinguishes the interface from your questions. Arabic right-to-left support exists for participant and host screens on the web, but the web quiz creator cannot currently switch its interface to RTL. The mobile app supports Arabic RTL creation, hosting and play. Changing interface language does not translate user-written questions.
For an English-Arabic group, preview the actual mixed text, punctuation, numerals and answer order on the devices being used. Do not assume a translated menu means the question itself is bilingual. Give participants enough reading time for the content rather than making second-language speed the hidden subject of the quiz.

Use your organisation’s approved material for the answers and date-sensitive UAE procedures. The table is an original session-design framework, not a quiz we have run or a claim of improved test scores. Avoid asking employees to disclose personal health, salary or immigration information as entertainment.
What it can—and cannot—tell a teacher or organiser
An answer pattern can suggest what to discuss next, but the score alone cannot separate understanding from guessing, reading speed, connection quality or familiarity with the game. Ask someone to explain an answer or apply the idea again without the same options. If the purpose is formal assessment, follow the institution’s assessment rules rather than treating a game leaderboard as an adequate replacement.
For family games, nicknames and fictional examples can be more appropriate than unnecessary personal details. Follow school or employer approval processes before uploading internal documents, creating child accounts or projecting identifying information. This is a practical caution, not a legal-compliance assessment of your setup.
A brief company-history correction
Kahoot’s company history dates its public launch to 2013 and its move to Oslo’s main stock-market list to March 2021. It records delisting in 2024 following acquisition, so the earlier listing should not be mistaken for its current ownership status.
On 28 October 2026, the company’s page displayed 14 billion cumulative, non-unique participants since 2013. That counts repeat participation, not 14 billion different people. It is a company-reported figure, not an independent audience audit or proof that a particular quiz improves memory.
Our recommendation is to use Kahoot for a clear, limited purpose: help people join, ask a worthwhile question and leave time to explain the answer. A game is useful when it improves the activity you intended to run—not simply because it makes a room louder.
