How to Check UAE Visa Status Online: ICP or GDRFA Dubai

Before I opened any visa checker, I would look at who issued the file. Dubai-issued entry permit or residence? Use GDRFA Dubai. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah? Use ICP. The emirate where you are standing—and the airport you plan to use—does not select the right inquiry. The authority responsible for the application or file does.

Next, separate “has my application progressed?” from “is my issued file valid?” I would not use an empty validity search to diagnose a pending application. The official sources and public form fields below were reviewed on 20 October 2026. No personal immigration record was submitted or checked, and the final authority response—not this guide—determines your individual status.

Which UAE visa checker should you use?

I would ask a sponsor or agent for the actual submission receipt before choosing a portal. A statement that someone is “processing a Dubai visa” is not the same as identifying the authority, transaction and inquiry route. Use the authority on the application record; do not select ICP or GDRFA by guessing from a hotel address or arrival airport.

Application status, visa validity and Emirates ID status are different

My first check would be the label on the number I have: application, transaction, file, PRAN or Emirates ID. They are not interchangeable. A screenshot can be genuine and still answer the wrong question. For example, an ID-card production update is not the same as confirmation of an entry permit’s validity.

How to check a UAE visa through ICP

ICP covers federal immigration services for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

For an issued visa or residence file

1. Open the official ICP File Validity page.
2. Select Passport Information if using passport details, or the file-number route if you have the appropriate immigration identifiers.
3. Select the relevant Visa or Residency option for this inquiry. The template also contains an Emirates ID option on its file-based route; do not substitute an ID check for the visa question.
4. For a passport search, enter the passport number, passport expiry date and nationality exactly as shown in the passport.
5. Complete the verification control and select Search.
6. Read the result carefully, including file status, issue or validity date, expiry date and any cancellation date displayed.

The public ICP template contains unified-number, file-number and identity-number fields on the file-based route, with nationality and date of birth; the passport route contains passport number, passport expiry and nationality. I would follow the fields actually displayed after making a selection, not fill every number from the document into whichever box is available. The research tool exposed untranslated template labels, not a completed result screen.

For a pending ICP application

For an account-submitted request, ICP’s FAQ directs users to My Applications / My Requests or Smart Services application tracking. Its tracking answer mentions numbers starting 010, but the text refers to Emirates ID even under a residency heading. I would use the reference on the actual receipt and the instructions for that transaction—not declare an unfamiliar number invalid because it fails one prefix rule. The dynamic public tracking screen did not fully render in this research check, so its complete current input sequence is not claimed here.

If an agency, airline, typing centre, employer or family sponsor submitted the request, I would ask for the government submission receipt, the exact application/reference number and the account or contact used. “Under process” without a traceable reference leaves you unable to establish what was submitted. Ask for clarification through the authority’s official channel if the submitter cannot identify the transaction.

How to check a Dubai visa through GDRFA

For a Dubai-issued entry permit or residence file, the GDRFA public inquiry contains separate application and file modes. Dubai.ae’s official guide confirms the different input sets below. The same page also offers other service modes; I would choose the one matching the receipt rather than assume every displayed field belongs to one form.

Track a pending Dubai application

1. Open the GDRFA status inquiry.
2. Select Application.
3. Enter the application number.
4. Enter the transaction number.
5. Enter the payment date shown on the receipt.
6. Submit the search and compare the response with the transaction you intended to check.

Those three application inputs are confirmed by Dubai.ae and appear in the public inquiry. That verifies the entry fields, not your outcome or a guarantee of approval. If the receipt and form do not match, I would ask the submitting party which official inquiry is appropriate instead of repeatedly guessing dates or numbers.

Why another official Dubai tracker asks for different details

GDRFA also publishes an Application Status Tracker whose first screen shows the email address used in the application, Emirates ID number and application reference number, followed by an email-verification stage. It is a different interface from the public Application/File inquiry above. I would not assume its applicability to every visa type or enter a made-up ID to get past a field. Ask GDRFA which route fits your transaction if the requested details do not exist on your record. This review did not submit either form or test the verification stage.

Check an issued Dubai file

1. On the same GDRFA inquiry, select File.
2. Enter the first name in English.
3. Enter the visa file number.
4. Select nationality.
5. Enter the date of birth.
6. Submit the inquiry.

First name in English, file number, nationality and date of birth belong to this file inquiry, not the three-field application search. Copy the details from the immigration record. If the record and passport differ, I would ask the authority or submitter to resolve the mismatch rather than try invented spellings until something appears.

What details should you have ready?

• Passport number, including every letter and digit
• Passport expiry date
• Nationality recorded on the application
• Date of birth
• Visa file or unified number, if available
• Application/request number
• For a Dubai application, the transaction number and payment date
• Emirates ID or PRAN only where the selected official inquiry requests it

Have the passport associated with the application and any renewal details ready. A passport change is a reason to ask which document the authority’s record uses—not evidence, established here, that all renewed passports remain linked in a particular way. Do not post either passport’s full identifiers publicly while troubleshooting.

How to read the result without making the wrong decision

Focus on the labelled fields returned by the government service:

• Application status relates to the request you submitted. It is not automatically proof that the issued permit is ready to use.
• File status relates to the immigration file and may show whether it is active, expired, closed or cancelled.
• Issue date is not always the same as the final date on which the holder may enter or remain.
• Expiry or validity date must be read in context: an entry permit’s validity before first entry is different from the permitted stay after entry.
• Cancellation date, if displayed, should be treated as a material change to the file; ask the authority or sponsor if the reason is unclear.

I would save the dated result with its reference, then ask the authority to explain any deadline or status I do not understand before acting on it. A screenshot records what was shown at that time; it is not a guarantee that nothing can change. Read the field labels rather than using a green icon or the word “valid” as a complete travel decision.

No record found: a seven-point diagnosis

Do not hand passport details to an unofficial “free checker” to solve a no-result screen. The government routes already provide the relevant inquiry.

What a visa-status check does not prove

A valid-looking visa result does not independently confirm all of the following:

• that a job offer or recruitment request is genuine;
• that the holder has no travel ban, police case or court restriction;
• that an airline will accept every document at check-in;
• that the passport meets the remaining-validity rule for a particular journey;
• that an employer completed a separate labour or work-permit process; or
• that entry is guaranteed, because the final immigration decision is made at the border.

Use the relevant government channel for each issue. Dubai.ae explicitly warns that a visit or tourist visa does not permit working and that employers bear recruitment expenses. I would check employment and immigration documents separately, through the authority relevant to the employment arrangement, rather than accept a visa image as proof of a genuine job.

The numbers above are published in the ICP FAQ and GDRFA contact information. Have the passport, submission receipt and file reference ready for a private official enquiry; do not post them in a public comment, forum or social-media reply.

Privacy and visa-fraud safeguards

• Open ICP, GDRFA, Dubai.ae or u.ae directly; check the domain before entering data.
• Do not send a passport scan, Emirates ID or one-time password to a stranger offering to “unlock” a result.
• Ask any agent or sponsor for the government transaction receipt and reference number.
• Do not pay for a supposed job or rely on a tourist visa for employment.
• Redact passport and file numbers before sharing a screenshot with anyone who does not need the full data.

The message I would send when the result does not make sense

“I am checking a [pending application / issued file] with [ICP / GDRFA]. My receipt calls the number [application / transaction / file reference]. The official inquiry I used was [page address], checked at [date and time], and it returned [exact wording]. Which inquiry should I use for this transaction, and is any action required?”

Send the necessary identifiers only through the authority’s or confirmed submitter’s private channel. Keep the exact result wording rather than translating “no record” into “rejected”. I would want a specific next step from the authority—not another unofficial website selling certainty it cannot establish. No universal update delay, grace period or approval time was verified in this guide.

Bottom line

I would start with the receipt, not a search-engine advert. Identify GDRFA or ICP, choose application tracking or issued-file validity, and use the corresponding references. If those three things do not line up, stop guessing and ask the authority. That is a more useful next step than paying a stranger to interpret an empty search.
