How is everything going?
Me? Oh, I’ve just been pushing a few games at present, including Donkey Kong Bonanza and hitting a lot of Mario Kart World (Switch 2 has taken over my life), I also really wanted to have a little look and see the upcoming new game releases dropping this August — I see we have a lot of games coming over the next few weeks.
Let’s break ’em down and see which ones I’m getting excited for!
Gradius Origins
Release date: August 7
Platforms: PC, Switch, PS5 & Xbox Series X|S
I’ve been a fan from a very young age. One of my favourites has to be Life Force (had this on NES). This collection features 18 versions of all 7 arcade titles, including, for the first time, Gradius III AM Show Version on home consoles (super cool).
You’ll also get some nice features, including save states, a rewind feature, invincible mode, and an art gallery.
This has me very excited — plus I get to go down memory lane and play some of the best side-scrolling arcade classics ever made! Need this on my Switch, lol.

The House of the Dead 2 Remake
Release date: August 7
Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4 & PS5, Xbox One & Series X|S
House of the Dead is such a staple in gaming history. I remember hitting the old arcades, grabbing the gun controller, and shooting away through zombies!
We get to return to this popular rail-shooter series. Take on the lone role of a secret agent as James or Gary, or team up in co-op mode. You can expect remastered graphics and music, new modes, and updated gameplay.
I hope you can get some kind of point-and-shoot laser-style gun for the game — or maybe this could be a nice feature with the Switch 2 mouse-style controls? Interesting indeed.

Mafia: The Old Country
Release date: August 8
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
This is one of my most highly anticipated games for August — I’m such a fan of the Mafia series. With this game, we’re going back to the 1900s, and from what I saw from the developers, this plays out more like a classic gritty crime movie, set in the old country of Sicily. You play as Enzo Favara and need to prove your worth to the Family.
The game already looks and sounds amazing. I really think we’re in for a compelling, action-packed cinematic story. Can’t wait for this one!
Oh, and the standard game only costs $50.

Madden NFL 26
Release date: August 14
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2
If you are a football fan, 100% this game is for you.
The new instalment features an AI-powered machine learning system, trained on thousands of real NFL plays, to deliver more explosive gameplay (getting Skynet vibes here — are you?).
Some of the new features include:
- AI-powered gameplay
- Franchise mode enhancements
- Quarterback and Coach DNA
- All-new weather effects
- Ultimate Team and Superstar Modes
- Broadcast and presentation improvements
Madden NFL 26 looks good, and EA is promising engaging gameplay. Guess we’ll find out on the 14th.

Drag x Drive
Release date: August 14
Platform: Switch 2
We have our next exclusive Switch 2 release called Drag x Drive.
It’s a 3v3 sports game where you can even use the Joy-Cons in mouse mode to control your players.
It could be fun, and it has some interesting game mechanics in place with the Joy-Cons. You can even flick your wrist to shoot — just like you’re playing real basketball. Why not? And it only costs $20.
Try the demo out now if you have a Switch 2.

Midnight Murder Club
Release date: August 14
Platforms: PC, PS5
This one is either going to be really good or really bad. The premise behind MMC is a good one: a multiplayer first-person shooter where you have to survive the night in a deadly mansion filled with traps, weapons, and surprises — and it’s pitch black inside. Oohhh…
Use flashlights, revolvers, and move stealthily, cleverly, and silently as possible! You need to stay alive until dawn.
Again, the idea is great, and I can see this being a lot of fun. Let’s see.

Sword of the Sea
Release date: August 19
Platforms: PC, PS5
This is also something I’ve been excited for from the development team Giant Squid. They did two very cool games: ABZÛ and The Pathless — both outstanding games with immersive storytelling and plenty of heart to boot.
This one reminds me a lot of Journey (which is one of my all-time favs, by the way). You get to surf across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters on an epic quest to restore a lost ocean. Very interesting!
You use a Hoversword, described as a snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard all in one, hit top speeds, do flips, spins, and tricks, and use halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides to build momentum.
From what I’m reading, the game can get a little dark. I’m excited for this one!

Gears of War Reloaded
Release date: August 26
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
I’ve been a Gears fan for many, many years. I bought my Xbox 360 for three games at the time: Halo 3, Dead Space, and Gears of War.
What makes this edition special is that it’s coming to PS5 as well. It already promises 4K textures, revamped lighting and shadows, and 120 FPS in multiplayer modes, as well as cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms.
Also, if you own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, you should be able to upgrade. If not, don’t worry — it will also be dropping on Game Pass day one.
The first game will always have a special place in my heart because, for me, it was some of the peak gaming I experienced in the mid-2000s (2006).

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Release date: August 28
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Not only am I a fan of MGS since the NES days, but when MGS1 dropped on PS1 back in 1998, I really think it took gaming to a whole new level of storytelling.
Hideo Kojima is such an OG and shaped how we play games today — but how do I feel about a remake that Hideo isn’t involved in? I guess I’ll just have to try it for myself.
As long as Konami stays true to the source material, we should have no problems. You have to remember, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is (in my opinion) one of the best games in the MGS franchise.
The game features all-new graphics and 3D audio that will enhance the jungle atmosphere.
I have high hopes for this one — fingers crossed.

Lost Soul Aside
Release date: August 29
Platforms: PC, PS5
I’m already getting huge DMC (Devil May Cry) vibes from this one.
The trailer, when I first saw it, looked very interesting — plenty of swordplay, magic, and overall good action. The game follows Kaser as you set out to rescue his sister, Louisa, and save humanity at the same time.
By the way, I want to mention that this game was first announced almost a decade ago, so I’m really interested in how it has evolved over the years.
