Hawkerboi in JLT: AED 89 weekday lunch, seven- and nine-dish banquets, current menus, service hours and direct bookings.
Hawkerboi in JLT is our pick for a Southeast Asian meal with a choice between a straightforward lunch and a longer sharing dinner. The strongest reason to go is that choice: AED 89 buys a weekday starter and main, while the supper-club banquets cost AED 275 or AED 360 per person before the municipal fee. Those are different evenings and different budgets. Choose the format first; the Bib Gourmand recognition does not make every possible order cheap. Smokingroove’s Thursday residency has ended, so book for the food rather than that former programme.

From supper club to JLT restaurant
Hawkerboi began with secret supper clubs in Dubai in 2021 before taking a permanent home at The Park in Jumeirah Lake Towers. EATX operates the restaurant. The supper-club idea still has a practical expression in the menu: two banquets give the whole table a sequence of sharing dishes instead of leaving each person to build a separate dinner.
The permanent restaurant removes the guesswork of tracking a pop-up location. There is a published lunch service, an evening service and an online reservation link. That makes Hawkerboi easier to use as a neighbourhood restaurant, rather than an event you have to hear about through the right people. The banquet remains the closest option to its original group-meal format.
Our first-visit choice is the weekday lunch. Choose the banquet when the table wants a longer meal and agrees on the spending.
What the supper-club format means for a booking
A supper club and a restaurant serve different purposes. At a supper club, the event and the shared menu are part of the attraction. At the JLT venue, you can also come for an ordinary lunch, choose individual dishes or reserve a table for two. You do not need an invitation, a private introduction or knowledge of a secret location.
The banquet requires the whole table. Settle the format and dietary needs before booking; do not assume one guest can order it separately.
The Park location
Hawkerboi is upstairs from Splendour Fields at The Park, JLT. Use the restaurant’s own map pin for your arrival rather than navigating only to the neighbourhood. Splendour Fields and Hawkerboi are separate dining concepts at the same address; an all-day café booking is not a dinner reservation at the upstairs restaurant.
Tell your guests The Park and the upstairs restaurant. A group reservation is not a private event: discuss any special seating arrangement directly.

How to build a sharing order
The menu draws on several Southeast Asian traditions rather than one national cuisine. That breadth is the attraction for a sharing table: curries, salads, dumplings, charcoal dishes and noodles offer different ways to build dinner. Our advice is to order across those sections. Four rich meat dishes are a less interesting first order than a curry, something crisp, a salad and rice.
Michelin describes influences from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. The published menu also names specific preparations, including roast-duck panang curry, beef massaman curry and tea-leaf salad. Read the dish descriptions as well as the section headings. Two items labelled curry can have very different ingredients; choosing by the protein alone misses half the decision.
A mixed group can choose seafood, meat or plant-based dishes. Check the actual ingredients: some greens explicitly use oyster sauce.
Ingredients and dietary choices
The menu gives enough detail to make an informed order. Roast-duck panang comes with cashews and lychee; the massaman uses beef and coconut; the tea-leaf salad includes peanuts and crunchy fava. We would put a salad beside a curry rather than order two curries with similar accompaniments. The contrast gives the table more variety without automatically adding another expensive main.
A useful first order has different textures as well as different proteins. Compare a dumpling or spring roll with a salad, then choose the main dish and the rice or noodles you actually want. The main menu has a separate sides section, so do not assume a curry price includes everything needed to turn it into a complete meal.
The menu marks spiciness and plant-based choices, and warns that most dishes contain onion, garlic and sesame. Discuss allergies before ordering.
Curries, noodles and dessert
For a curry-led dinner, compare the roast-duck panang, beef massaman and mother’s-style fish curry. These are actual main-menu choices. Beef rendang also appears in the business lunch, while the main menu includes a rendang curry puff. The distinction matters: a dish available in one service is not automatically part of every menu offered at the restaurant.
For noodles, the main menu lists beef char kway teow, prawn drunken noodles, pad Thai and roast-duck mee goreng. That is a stronger basis for choosing than a generic promise of Singaporean or Thai classics. Our preference for a sharing meal is one noodle dish alongside a curry or a charcoal dish, rather than several noodle mains competing for the same space on the table.
Michelin specifically recommends the fish curry and caramelised pineapple pie with yoghurt ice cream. That is the guide’s recommendation, not a claim that our team tasted them. Use it as a shortlist if those dishes appeal to you, then match the rest of the order to the group. A critic’s favourite does not override an allergy or a dislike of the main ingredient.

What the Michelin recognition means
Hawkerboi received Bib Gourmand recognition in the 2025 Dubai Michelin selection. It is a different distinction from a Michelin star. For readers comparing restaurants, the useful implication is that the guide recognises its cooking and value; it is not a promise of a formal tasting-menu experience, a particular style of service or a fixed maximum bill.
The practical value test is the menu you intend to order. A weekday lunch and a nine-dish banquet have very different starting prices, even at the same restaurant. Do not use the award to assume a dinner with cocktails and several premium dishes will cost the same as a short lunch. Work from the actual menu format and the number of people.
Choose Hawkerboi for a Southeast Asian sharing meal. An award does not guarantee a silent room, a particular table or a live performance.
Lunch versus dinner value
Bib Gourmand is Michelin’s good-cooking-and-value category. It should not be described as a lesser star or as proof that every item is inexpensive. A restaurant can offer an accessible set lunch and a substantially more expensive dinner banquet at the same time. Hawkerboi is a clear example, which is why this guide separates the prices rather than giving one misleading per-person estimate.
The AED 89 lunch is our clearest starting point: starter and main, with dessert extra. The banquet is the longer, whole-table commitment.
Choosing between the two banquets
Before comparing the two banquets, decide whether a set sequence is the right format for your group. Banquet 1 lists seven dishes at AED 275 per person; Banquet 2 lists nine at AED 360. Both require the whole table. Ask which dishes make up the chosen sequence and how dietary substitutions work before treating the number of courses as the deciding factor.
The larger banquet adds AED 85 per person before fees. We would choose it only when the extra dishes suit the group.

Seating and service times
Hawkerboi has an open kitchen, a bar and terraces. That layout gives you a choice of setting within the venue. Tell the team whether you want to be closer to the cooking, on a terrace or seated for a group conversation. Seating preferences are worth discussing when booking; the restaurant’s atmosphere alone cannot guarantee the right table for your occasion.
Smokingroove’s Thursday residency has ended. Book for the food; an old DJ programme is no longer a reason to choose Thursday.
Choose the setting for the occasion
Choose the open-kitchen setting if seeing the cooking is part of the appeal. Choose a terrace according to the weather and your preference for outdoor seating. For an important dinner, put that request in the booking rather than assuming every table delivers the same experience. A restaurant with several seating areas is best planned by area, not just by its name.
Use lunch for the defined meal, or dinner for shared plates and banquets. Choose a currently advertised event if music is your main priority.
The open kitchen
The open kitchen is a real feature of the venue, not evidence that a diner will interact with the chef or receive a personalised demonstration. It gives the room a visible focus on cooking. If that is your main reason for booking, ask about a suitable table; a reservation by itself does not establish how close you will be seated to it.
Mix cooking styles: a charcoal dish, curry and salad offer more variety than several fried starters followed by fried noodles.
Smokingroove Thursdays have ended
Smokingroove’s former Thursday residency has ended. Do not book Hawkerboi expecting the weekly 90s hip-hop and New Jack Swing programme previously advertised here. This removes a reason to select that particular night; it does not change the restaurant’s location, menus or licensed status. Choose the booking time around lunch or dinner service instead.
For weekday lunch, the business menu runs from noon to 3pm, while the broader lunch service continues to 4pm. Evening service begins at 6pm. Those are separate service windows, so a late afternoon arrival is not the same thing as a dinner booking. Leave a gap between a long lunch and an onward commitment rather than assuming every service runs continuously.

Who should choose Hawkerboi
Hawkerboi is a sensible choice for a mixed Southeast Asian order in JLT, particularly when the group wants to share. The business lunch gives solo diners and smaller tables a more defined meal. The banquet gives a group an agreed sequence. Our strongest recommendation is to use those formats deliberately, rather than order a long list of dishes because a guide calls them all must-tries.
Choose on location and meal format. Our JLT guide puts the restaurant into a neighbourhood itinerary.
Drinks and direct booking
Hawkerboi is licensed, with alcoholic drinks alongside soft drinks. That makes it a different format from an unlicensed restaurant serving similar regional cuisines. Agree whether drinks are part of the plan before splitting a group bill. The food prices below do not include cocktails, wine or beer, so a food-only comparison is not the total cost of a drinking dinner.
Book through the operator or call 800 EATX (3289). Message +971 50 427 5217 for group enquiries; walk-in tables do not guarantee a group slot.
Plan the food budget
The lunch and banquet figures provide a better value comparison than calling the restaurant affordable without a number. A two-person business lunch starts at AED 178 for food before the municipal fee; the smaller banquet starts at AED 550 for two. That gap is large enough to shape the occasion. Choose lunch for the simpler budget, and dinner for the longer sharing format.
Choose à la carte for individual flexibility and the banquet for an agreed sequence. Ask about portions before ordering for the whole group.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of cuisine does Hawkerboi serve?
Southeast Asian cooking, with influences from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. The published menu covers curries, charcoal dishes, dumplings, salads, rice and noodles. Choose from the menu for your service: the weekday business lunch and the main menu are not identical.
Where is Hawkerboi located in Dubai?
The Park, Jumeirah Lake Towers, upstairs from Splendour Fields. Use the restaurant’s own map pin and tell your guests the upstairs venue name. Hawkerboi and the café below are separate dining concepts, so check the name on your reservation.
What is a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand award?
It is Michelin’s distinction for good cooking and value, separate from a star. Hawkerboi joined the Dubai Bib Gourmand selection in 2025. The recognition does not fix the cost of your order: the lunch and dinner banquet have different prices and formats.
Does Smokingroove still play on Thursdays?
No. Smokingroove’s Thursday residency has ended. Choose Hawkerboi for its current food and service options, not the former weekly DJ programme. If you want a specific event, book against an announced date rather than assuming an old residency remains active.
Is Hawkerboi a licensed venue?
Yes. The venue serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The worked food budgets in this guide exclude drinks. Set a separate drinks allowance when planning a group dinner, especially if some guests intend to order wine or cocktails and others do not.
What makes Hawkerboi unique in Dubai’s dining scene?
It combines a former supper-club format with an everyday JLT restaurant: individual dishes, weekday business lunch and whole-table banquets are all distinct options. The useful difference is that you can choose the format to fit a short lunch or a longer sharing dinner.
What are some popular dishes at Hawkerboi?
The main menu includes roast-duck panang, beef massaman, mother’s-style fish curry, tea-leaf salad and several noodle dishes. Michelin recommends the fish curry and pineapple pie. Our ordering advice is to mix a main, a salad and a different cooking style rather than choose every rich dish at once.
Facts checked on 9 October 2026. The menu budgets below use the restaurant’s published food prices and stated municipal fee. They exclude drinks and additional orders. The former Smokingroove residency is not part of the current recommendation.
Our choice: weekday lunch for a defined budget, banquet for a group that wants a longer shared meal. Agree the format before booking.
At dinner, settle the shared order and dietary requirements together. At lunch, choose a starter and main, then decide whether to add dessert.
Use the correct upstairs venue, book the relevant service and budget separately for drinks. Smokingroove Thursdays no longer belong in the plan.
Lunch and banquet costs for two
The published menus include 5% VAT and add a 7% municipal fee. These calculations apply that stated fee to the food price only. They make the formats comparable without guessing a typical bill or assuming everyone orders the same drinks.
| Food order for two | Base price | With 7% municipal fee |
|---|---|---|
| Business lunch: starter and main each | AED 178 | AED 190.46 |
| Business lunch plus one AED 25 dessert each | AED 228 | AED 243.96 |
| Seven-dish banquet | AED 550 | AED 588.50 |
| Nine-dish banquet | AED 720 | AED 770.40 |
The lunch choices include salads and mains such as beef rendang, steamed fish and crispy tofu. Dessert is an extra AED 25, not an included third course. For two people, adding a dessert each costs AED 53.50 after the stated municipal fee. That is a meaningful extra, so decide after the main rather than automatically treating the lunch as a three-course package.
The nine-dish banquet costs AED 181.90 more for two than the seven-dish option after the same fee. We would spend that difference only if the extra dishes suit the table. For a larger group, multiply the per-person price before booking and agree how drinks will be divided. The menu’s whole-table rule makes this a collective decision.
For a plant-based order, start with the labelled dishes such as the plant-based dumplings or yellow curry. Do not assume every salad, vegetable side or curry can be made vegan: sauces and accompaniments need checking. The lunch has a crispy-tofu main, but the full order still depends on the chosen starter and any substitutions.
Hawkerboi’s booking and menu page links both menus. Lunch service is noon–4pm daily; the AED 89 business lunch is noon–3pm Monday–Friday. Dinner is 6pm–midnight Sunday–Thursday and 6pm–1am Friday–Saturday. Book the relevant service rather than relying on a general opening-hours range that hides the afternoon gap.
