My first rule for Dubai parking fees: read the whole zone code, not just the letter you remember. A and AP are not the same tariff. Neither are D and DP. That small distinction can matter more to your bill than another lap around the block looking for a space.
I would check three things before paying: the sign beside the bay, the price for the time I actually need, and the confirmation showing the correct plate. For regular commuters, I would then compare a seasonal permit against real parking days—not assume every weekday needs an eight-hour payment.
Tariff tables and RTA permit conditions rechecked on 21 October 2026; the broader source review was on 19 October. The guide below uses Parkin’s published tariff tables and its August 2026 financial report, with separate notes on permit eligibility and fines. It covers the main A–D comparisons, not every privately operated car park in Dubai.

Dubai parking rates: compare A with AP, not “cheap” with “expensive” neighbourhoods
The P suffix matters. I would not describe all Zone A parking as premium or assume that B, C and D escape peak pricing. Parkin publishes separate standard and premium tables, including different peak and off-peak figures for standard B, C and D.
The following are one-hour amounts in AED shown in Parkin’s published tables when checked. These are not the older headline base figures of AED 4 and AED 6. Check the actual transaction total, including any payment-channel charge, rather than applying tax twice or substituting an old news graphic.

Source: Parkin’s parking information and zone tables. Peak periods for the variable tariff are 8–10am and 4–8pm. I would use the quoted session price for a stay crossing a time boundary; multiplying one hourly figure by the whole visit can give the wrong answer.
Why I would not multiply the first hour into an all-day bill
The published schedules include multi-hour options, not simply an hourly meter running at one constant rate. For example, the D table lists AED 7.35 for four off-peak hours, while its one-hour off-peak entry is AED 2.10. Four times AED 2.10 is AED 8.40—not the listed four-hour amount.
For longer stays, the tables also show 14-hour entries of AED 31.50 for B, AED 42 for BP, AED 21 for D and AED 31.50 for DP. Those are specific listed durations, not a promise that every eight-hour visit costs the same or that a permit covers every one of those codes.
My preference is straightforward: compare the actual session options for two legal, practical spaces. Include the walk. Saving a few dirhams is not a good trade if the alternative makes the return journey unpleasant or takes you to a different operator’s parking.
When parking is free—and the exceptions that matter
The main A/AP through D/DP schedules show charging Monday to Saturday, 8am–10pm. Do not extend that timetable to every facility. Parkin’s information also lists 24-hour, seven-day schedules for zones such as M, N and V, while Q runs to midnight. Public-holiday arrangements should be checked against the operator’s announcement for that holiday.
Multi-storey parking is not the same as roadside parking. Its published schedule is 24/7, with AED 5 plus 5% VAT per hour and AED 40 plus 5% VAT for 24 hours. That calculates to AED 5.25 and AED 42 respectively. A Sunday or overnight visit is not automatically free.
I would never plan a late dinner around the phrase “free after 10” without first checking the exact location. That is the sort of shortcut that sounds helpful and produces an avoidable bill. Developer-operated facilities, malls and hotels can also have their own validation and charging arrangements.
How I would pay without a plate or zone mistake
I favour a payment channel that makes the plate, full zone and session end easy to check. Convenience is wasted if the payment applies to the wrong car. Use Parkin’s official payment options rather than an imitation screen or an unsolicited payment link.
- Read the sign where the car is parked. Copy the full code, including any P. GPS can help locate a zone; it does not replace checking the sign beside the actual bay.
- Check the vehicle details. Emirate, plate category, code and number must match. Do not reuse a saved plate without looking at it, especially with a rental or a second family car.
- Choose the duration and review the total. Read the maximum stay and any relevant restrictions before buying a longer session.
- Wait for a successful confirmation. A sent message or a pending payment is not proof of a valid session. Keep the confirmation and its expiry time.
- Set your own reminder. Follow the extension instructions in the actual confirmation. Do not rely on receiving a reminder at one universal interval or assume an extension overrides a maximum-stay limit.
SMS, WhatsApp, app or meter?
SMS: the parking number is 7275. Parkin’s SMS and WhatsApp instructions explain the relevant plate format. SMS adds a 30-fils service charge per message. I would check the format for the actual registration rather than copy a Dubai private-plate example for a different emirate or plate category.
Dubai private-plate example—not a ready-to-send message: Parkin’s official diagram separates the message into A00000 000A 2. The first part joins the plate code and number; the second is the parking area’s full code; the last requests two hours. There is a space before the zone and before the duration, not between the plate code and number. Those are the diagram’s placeholder details: replace them with your own vehicle, the code on the bay’s sign and a permitted duration. Other-emirate plates, motorcycles and registered-user nicknames have separate formats; do not reuse this example for them. Keep the successful confirmation, not just the outgoing message.
WhatsApp: the official Mahboub contact is +971 58 800 9090. Follow its parking prompts and verify the confirmation. Do not send the SMS to this WhatsApp number or treat 7275 as the WhatsApp contact.
App: Parkin lists its app alongside partner channels such as RTA Dubai and DubaiNow. Its guidance says app and WhatsApp parking avoid the additional SMS charge. I would still inspect the final payment screen rather than assume every service inside every app has identical terms.
Meter: follow the particular machine’s accepted payment methods and plate-entry instructions. Parkin’s electronic ticket guidance does not require displaying a paper ticket on the dashboard. Keep any receipt or digital record; do not infer a working payment method from the illustrative meter shown here.
Seasonal permits: useful for commuters, wasted money for the wrong routine
I like a seasonal permit when it solves a repeated, measured expense. I do not like buying one because “unlimited parking” sounds reassuring. It must cover the places and active vehicle you use, and it does not reserve an empty space beside your office.
Parkin’s Q2 2026 report, published on 13 August, lists the following seasonal prices. These are the report’s figures, not a completed checkout quote today. Confirm current coverage, final price, activation and terms before buying.

The same report records a weighted average hourly tariff of AED 3.00 for Q2 2026. That is a business-wide measure, not the price of your particular parking space. It also means the older AED 3.03 quarterly average should not be labelled the latest official figure.
My break-even test: count the days you will actually park
Use final permit price ÷ actual eligible daily parking cost. Then round up to the next whole parking day. Keep both prices on the same basis, including applicable charges. Leave out holidays, remote-working days and days when you park somewhere the permit does not cover.
Here is an illustrative calculation, not a live offer: assume the final three-month permit quote is AED 700 and the eligible alternative really costs AED 21 per day. Break-even is 700 ÷ 21 = 33.33, so the permit becomes cheaper on the 34th parking day.

That is why I would not promise every commuter hundreds in savings. The same assumed permit loses money for someone making 20 eligible trips and pays off for someone making 66. Change either price or the coverage and the answer changes. The table is our calculation, not a Parkin savings claim or evidence of a parking trial.
Small price differences can move the break-even day
Keep the example’s AED 21 daily cost, but suppose your final permit quote is AED 735 rather than AED 700. Then 735 ÷ 21 = 35: daily parking and the permit cost exactly the same after 35 days, and the permit is cheaper from day 36. That is a sensitivity calculation, not a new quoted permit price. The extra AED 35 moves the first cheaper day from 34 to 36. I would use the final checkout total, not round it back down to make the saving look better.
Before applying for a permit
The RTA seasonal-permit service distinguishes General coverage for designated A, B, C and D parking from Areas coverage for B and D, and lists location exceptions. I would get explicit confirmation for the exact code I use—including a P suffix or developer location—instead of treating a general category name as universal coverage.
- Record your usual parking codes and realistic commuting days.
- Choose the category, validity period and start date in the official service.
- Match the plate and traffic-file details to the vehicle registration; provide the documents requested for that application.
- Read the current exclusions, vehicle-switching and amendment terms before paying.
- Check activation and the active vehicle before relying on the permit.
The RTA service allows up to three Dubai-plate vehicles on the same traffic file, but only one can use the permit at a time. Company-file or other-emirate registrations have different limits. Its form does not display a reliable populated price without the application details, so I have not presented a placeholder as a quote.
Commitment matters as much as the monthly equivalent
The linked RTA service says an issued permit is non-refundable. It does not allow General (A) to be changed to Areas (B); upgrading B to A requires the applicable fees. It also lists AED 100 to amend details such as linked vehicles, with ownership documentation. Confirm the applicable terms for the product and channel you actually select.
I would not buy a year solely because its monthly equivalent looks attractive. An office move, a new remote-working pattern or a different car can change the calculation. Check coverage and likely usage first, then compare the term lengths and amendment conditions. A refund you cannot obtain is not part of the saving.
Where I would look for a real saving
- Short errands: compare the actual time slots. A cheaper first hour is irrelevant if you need three, or the alternative has a shorter maximum stay.
- Flexible visits: compare a session outside the peak windows. Arriving before 8am does not make the subsequent 8–10am stay free; leaving after 8pm does not erase charges already incurred.
- Regular office days: use the break-even calculation and exact permit coverage. Do not buy a broad category to solve parking at one excluded facility.
- Metro trips: compare the full trip—fare, station parking eligibility, last-mile travel and time. I would check current park-and-ride conditions rather than promise a named station is free or quote a universal monthly saving.
- Hotel or mall visits: ask about validation and spending conditions before choosing the car park. A free period can be useful; buying something unwanted to qualify is not automatically a saving.
For the rail side of that comparison, use RTA’s Metro information. The parking and transport parts of a journey need to add up together.
Parking fines: match the offence, not just a number
Table 6 of Dubai Executive Council Resolution No. 5 of 2016 sets out roadside/yard parking offences. Selected listed fines are below. These are not a complete schedule of Dubai Police traffic offences, and an itemised notice can include other applicable charges.

I would not use a generic “obstructing traffic: AED 500” line as advice for every situation. The offence and location determine the applicable provision. Multi-storey parking has a separate schedule, and road traffic offences are a separate issue. Payment for a bay never authorises parking somewhere prohibited.
If something looks wrong, preserve the sign, plate, payment confirmation, session times and notice number, then use Parkin’s official fine service and its dispute instructions. A successful payment is evidence to check, not a guarantee that every fine will be cancelled.

Questions answered
Is A automatically premium parking?
No. The published tables distinguish A from AP. Check the full signed code and the actual session quote; do not infer premium pricing from the letter A alone.
Is all parking free on Sunday or after 10pm?
No. Several schedules and multi-storey facilities operate beyond those hours or seven days a week. Read the timetable for the particular zone or operator.
Can a seasonal permit be used by several cars at once?
No. The RTA service allows eligible vehicles to be linked under its conditions, but only one vehicle can use the permit at a time. Confirm which vehicle is active.
Will a seasonal permit save me money?
Compare its final price and actual coverage with the parking sessions you would otherwise buy. Count your real eligible parking days. The worked example above breaks even on day 34 only under its stated assumptions.
My verdict: buy the right parking, not the reassuring headline
I would put the zone code and confirmation ahead of every “parking hack”. For a daily commuter, a suitable permit deserves a serious look. For occasional visits, it can be an expensive answer to a problem you do not have. The best saving is the one your own journey and arithmetic support.
