Dubai Marina is the city at its most vertical and its most social — a two-mile man-made canal ringed by a forest of glass towers, with a waterside promenade that hums from breakfast until well past midnight. It is where a lot of new arrivals first fall for Dubai, and where long-time residents keep coming back for the sundowners, the brunches and the easy, walkable buzz.
With JBR and its open beach on one side and Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai on the other, Dubai Marina is also one of the best-connected leisure districts in the city. Here is how to make the most of it, as part of our main Dubai guide.
Getting your bearings in Dubai Marina
The heart of it is the Marina Walk, a pedestrian promenade that loops the water past cafes, yacht berths and the seven-storey dining tower at Pier 7. Cross to the seafront and you are on The Walk and The Beach at JBR; head the other way over the footbridge to Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai. Dubai Marina Mall anchors the middle.
Where to eat in Dubai Marina
Dining runs the full range, from AED 20 shawarma to waterfront fine dining. Pier 7 stacks seven restaurants over seven floors, the Marina Walk is wall-to-wall with terraces, and JBR’s The Walk adds another strip next door. Start with the best restaurants in Dubai, line up the most fun brunches, or find a deal in the best dining offers.
Where to drink in Dubai Marina
Sundowners are the Marina’s natural habitat — drinks over the yachts as the towers light up. Begin with the best bars in Dubai Marina, time it with Dubai happy hours, and for a view worth the lift ride go to the best rooftop happy hours.
Beach and getting on the water
The open sand at JBR is free and a short walk away, or book a day-bed at one of the best beach clubs in Dubai. The Marina itself is built for the water: sunset yacht cruises, speedboat tours, jet skis and paddleboards all launch from the promenade.
Things to do in Dubai Marina
Beyond eating and drinking, Dubai Marina is made for pottering — a full loop of the Marina Walk, a spin around Dubai Marina Mall, the giant Ain Dubai wheel on Bluewaters, or the adrenaline of Skydive Dubai’s drop zone. Our roundup of things to do in Dubai has more.
Where to stay
The choice splits between sleek waterfront hotels along the Marina and beachfront resorts on JBR, with a deep supply of serviced apartments in between.
Getting to Dubai Marina and around
The Metro Red Line (DAMAC and Sobha Realty) and the Dubai Tram both serve Dubai Marina, and the tram loops round to JBR and Bluewaters. Once you arrive it is genuinely walkable, and water taxis add a scenic way to cross the canal; weekend parking fills fast, so the Metro is the easier call.
Best time to visit
Evenings and weekends are when the Marina is at its liveliest; come earlier for a quieter beach and easier tables. October to April is peak, but the waterfront stays busy year-round.
