Downtown Dubai is the city’s showpiece — the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, the nightly fountain show and the Opera District, all in one walkable cluster. It is the first stop for most visitors and still a big-night-out destination for residents, wrapped around the palm-lined Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
Downtown Dubai is also the most connected part of the city, with the Metro dropping you straight into the Dubai Mall and DIFC a short stroll away. Here is how to do it well, as part of our main Dubai guide.

Everything orbits the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall, with the Dubai Fountain in the lake between them and the Opera District just across the water. The Boulevard loops the base of the tower, lined with cafes and terraces, and DIFC and Business Bay sit right on the doorstep.

Getting to Downtown Dubai and around
The Metro (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station) puts you in the heart of it, linked to the mall by an air-conditioned travelator, and Downtown Dubai is walkable once you arrive — if spread out. Taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps.
Best time to visit
The Dubai Fountain runs shows through the evening, so plan dinner around them; sunset is the sweet spot for rooftop views. October to April brings the most comfortable temperatures for the Boulevard.
