JBR — Jumeirah Beach Residence — is Dubai by the sea at its most social. Two levels of promenade at The Walk, an open-air beachfront at The Beach, and a long stretch of public sand give it a holiday feel every day of the week, with Dubai Marina behind it and Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai a footbridge away.
It is one of the easiest places in the city to spend a whole day — beach in the morning, lunch on The Walk, sundowners as the towers light up. Here is how to do it, as part of our complete Dubai guide.
Getting your bearings
The Walk is the buzzy two-tier promenade of shops and restaurants that runs behind the towers; The Beach is the open-air mall and cinema complex that opens straight onto the sand. From the northern end, a footbridge crosses to Bluewaters and Ain Dubai; the Marina sits directly inland.
Where to eat
The Walk and The Beach are lined with cafes, casual restaurants and brunch spots, most with terraces facing the sea. Plan with our pick of the best restaurants in Dubai and line up a weekend session from the most fun brunches.
Where to drink
Beach bars and sundowner terraces run the length of the strip. Time it with our Dubai happy hours guide, and the Marina’s bars are a short walk away too.
Beach and the water
The Beach at JBR has a free public stretch of sand plus paid day-beds at the best beach clubs in Dubai. Watersports, a splash pad and an outdoor cinema on the sand round it out — and for more coastline see the UAE’s best beaches.
Things to do
Beyond the beach there is shopping and cinema at The Beach, the giant Ain Dubai wheel across the bridge on Bluewaters, and endless people-watching along The Walk. Our roundup of things to do in Dubai has more nearby.
Where to stay
JBR is lined with beachfront resorts and hotel apartments, making it one of the best spots in the city to stay right on the sand.
Getting there and around
The Dubai Tram runs through JBR and links to the Metro Red Line (DAMAC and Sobha Realty), and the whole strip is made for walking. Taxis and ride-hailing are easy, but weekend parking is tight.
Best time to visit
Mornings are best for a quieter beach; evenings and weekends are when The Walk really comes alive. October to April is the sweet spot, though the sea breeze keeps it pleasant most of the year.
