VOX IMAX Yas Mall is the cinema to choose when the screen and soundtrack are part of the reason you are going. The upgraded auditorium has a 23.2-metre-wide, floor-to-ceiling screen, 4K IMAX with Laser projection, 12-channel sound and a mix of glider and recliner seats. It opened in December 2025 and is currently listed by both IMAX and VOX Cinemas.

The important part is choosing the right format, seat and arrival plan. IMAX is not automatically the best ticket for every film, Yas Mall’s parking is no longer unlimited and some of VOX’s own venue information is inconsistent. This independently checked guide explains what is confirmed, what to book and the details that can save a movie night from becoming an expensive rush.

VOX IMAX Yas Mall at a glance

    • Location: Yas Mall, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi; use Cinema Parking and follow the in-mall VOX signs
    • IMAX screen: 23.2 metres wide, the largest cinema screen in Abu Dhabi according to Yas Mall
    • Projection: 4K IMAX with Laser
    • Sound: 12-channel immersive system with ceiling, rear and surround speakers
    • Seats: glider and recliner options; the live seat map shows the exact categories for each session
    • Tickets and showtimes: dynamic; check the official VOX Yas Mall booking page
    • Parking: first four hours free, then AED 20 for hour five and AED 10 for each additional hour
    • Last fact-check: 29 July 2026

Is VOX IMAX Yas Mall worth it?

Yes, for a film that has an IMAX release and uses scale, detailed sound or an expanded image. The upgrade is material: this is not a standard projector placed in front of a large screen. IMAX lists the venue as “IMAX with Laser”, while the launch specification confirms 4K laser projection and a 12-channel audio system.

That does not mean IMAX is the smartest purchase for every screening. A dialogue-led film may gain less from the format than a space epic, action film, concert movie or title shot with IMAX-certified cameras. Before paying, open the film on VOX and look for an actual IMAX session label. A film playing elsewhere in the same complex is not necessarily being shown in IMAX.

The Yas Mall auditorium is a verified IMAX with Laser venue, not simply a VOX-branded large screen.

What the Yas Mall IMAX specification means

FeatureConfirmed specificationWhat it changes for the audience
Screen23.2 metres wide and floor-to-ceilingA larger field of view, particularly noticeable in films presented with expanded IMAX image
Projection4K IMAX with LaserMore brightness, contrast and colour than the venue’s previous projection system
Audio12-channel immersive soundAdditional spatial placement from ceiling, rear and surround channels
MasteringIMAX DMR for IMAX releasesThe film’s picture and sound are prepared specifically for the IMAX presentation
SeatingGlider and recliner optionsMore choice than a single uniform seat type; check the map before payment

Two details are often blurred in competing guides. First, “4K Laser” describes the projection system; it does not mean every source movie was captured in 4K or filmed with an IMAX camera. Second, an IMAX release can still differ from title to title. The aspect ratio, footage captured for IMAX and sound mix depend on the film. Use the IMAX label as a format guarantee, not a promise that every movie uses every capability in the same way.

Best seats at VOX IMAX Yas Mall

There is no universal row number because VOX can change which auditorium layout it exposes and seat availability varies by session. Use the live map and apply this simple rule:

    • For the most balanced picture and sound: choose a seat near the horizontal centre, around the middle to rear-middle portion of the auditorium.
    • For maximum scale: move a few rows forward, but avoid the very front if looking sharply upward is uncomfortable.
    • For easier access: choose an aisle seat and confirm the route at the counter if mobility is a concern.
    • For recliner comfort: check the seat legend rather than assuming every selectable seat reclines in the same way.

Groups should book early for opening weekends. The centre seats disappear first, and splitting a party across distant rows undermines the reason for choosing a premium-format screening.

IMAX, MAX, Premier, THEATRE or KIDS?

Yas Mall is not a one-format cinema. Choosing by occasion is more useful than assuming the most expensive option wins.

FormatChoose it forKey distinction at Yas Mall
IMAXFilms released in IMAX where picture scale and precision sound matter23.2m screen, 4K IMAX with Laser and 12-channel audio
MAXA giant-screen blockbuster when the film or preferred showtime is not available in IMAXApproximately 20m screen, laser projection, Dolby Atmos and Premium View seats
PremierA regular screening with better comfort11 auditoriums with glider or fully reclining seat choices and laser projection
THEATREDinner-and-a-movie, a date or a quieter luxury occasionFour auditoriums, reclining seats, private lounge and in-seat dining
KIDSA family screening designed for younger moviegoersColourful, child-focused auditorium for suitable releases

A current 4DX warning: old copy on VOX’s venue page still tells visitors to “try the 4DX”, but the completed 2026 refurbishment replaced the former 4DX auditorium with an additional THEATRE screen. Yas Mall’s current directory promotes IMAX, THEATRE, Premier, MAX and KIDS. If 4DX is the reason for your visit, trust the live booking filters—not an old venue description—and choose another VOX location if no 4DX session appears.

Check the format badge on the individual showtime: one venue contains several very different cinema experiences.

Tickets, showtimes and booking without mistakes

    1. Open the official VOX Yas Mall page or app and select the film.
    2. Filter or scan the session cards for the IMAX badge.
    3. Check whether the screening is 2D or 3D and read the UAE age classification.
    4. Open the seat map, compare glider and recliner labels, then review the full checkout price before paying.
    5. If plans may change, book while signed in to a VOX account rather than as a guest.

Ticket prices are dynamic and can change by film, session, seat category and promotion, so a fixed price copied into an article quickly becomes misleading. VOX also says operating hours vary by location; the first listed session is a better guide than generic mall hours.

The account detail matters. Under VOX’s current terms, eligible online bookings made through a registered account may be cancelled through My Account → Past Purchases → Manage Booking, with the value returned as VOX credit. Guest bookings, promotional tickets and sessions starting in less than 30 minutes are among the exclusions. VOX credit is not cash and currently expires after 90 days. Read the live cancellation terms before relying on a refund.

Parking at Yas Mall: the four-hour trap

Use Cinema Parking for the most direct route. Yas Mall introduced ticketless Parkonic parking in December 2025: the first four hours per day are free, hour five costs AED 20, and hour six plus each additional hour costs AED 10. The system reads the vehicle’s number plate and charges through Salik; visitors without Salik can use the QR code on parking signs or Parkonic payment machines.

A long film plus trailers, food and time in the mall can cross the free four-hour limit surprisingly easily. Start counting from the moment the car enters, not the advertised showtime. Yas Mall also lists Cinema Entrance valet at AED 30 for regular full-day valet and AED 100 for VIP valet, available from 10am to midnight; verify that price on the day if valet is part of the plan.

One more source conflict is worth knowing: VOX’s venue page says “Level 2, next to the Food Court”, while Yas Mall’s own directory calls the cinema “First Floor”. Rather than navigating by a floor number, follow the VOX/Cinema signs from Cinema Parking. This avoids a surprisingly common dead end.

    Accessibility, children and food rules

    • Wheelchair spaces: VOX says its cinemas have allocated wheelchair areas and directs guests to the ticket counter for details. Contact the venue before a busy screening if adjacent companion seating matters.
    • Age ratings: UAE classifications are enforced and staff may request photo ID. Check the rating shown on the film page before buying for a family.
    • Children aged two and under: VOX says they may enter without a separate ticket but do not receive a separate seat; the film’s rating still applies.
    • 3D: VOX’s FAQ says IMAX 3D glasses are included with an IMAX ticket and supplied at cinema entry.
    • Outside food: food and drink bought outside the cinema are not permitted inside. VOX allows advance snack ordering through its app.
    • THEATRE: children under five are not admitted; guests aged five to 18 must also satisfy the film rating and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

    Our verdict

VOX IMAX Yas Mall is a strong choice for the right film because its 23.2-metre screen, laser projection and 12-channel system are confirmed—not marketing guesses. Its biggest weakness is information consistency: VOX and Yas Mall disagree on the floor and total screen count, while an old 4DX reference remains online after the format was converted. The live booking page is therefore the authority for today’s film, format, seat and price.

For a straightforward plan, pick a genuine IMAX session, book a central middle-to-rear seat, use Cinema Parking and allow enough time for the four-hour parking threshold. If the movie does not have an IMAX session, compare MAX for spectacle, Premier for comfort and THEATRE for dining rather than paying for a label that does not match the occasion.
