Those prices include VAT on Breitling’s UAE product pages. “Contact Breitling” does not prove that a reference is sold out; it means the site was not offering a direct online checkout for that model when we checked. Confirm live stock with the brand rather than relying on a resale listing or an assumed UAE allocation.
What all three editions share
Every version uses a 41mm Top Time case, sapphire crystal, a brown hand-coloured gradient calfskin strap and 100-metre water resistance. Breitling’s UAE pages list a 13.3mm case thickness. Inside is the self-winding Breitling Manufacture Calibre 01, a COSC-certified column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch and an approximately 70-hour power reserve.
The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback. Its rotor carries dedicated Aston Martin engraving: rhodium-plated on the steel version and 18k red gold on the steel-and-platinum and red-gold references. All three provide central chronograph seconds and a 30-minute counter, with a tachymeter scale around the dial.

The three DB5 editions explained
Steel and silver: AB0178121G1X1
The entry reference pairs a stainless-steel case with a silver sunray dial and black, concentrically textured subdials. Its warm wooden inner ring and brown strap carry the DB5 connection without turning the watch into a logo-heavy car tie-in. The caseback is marked “One of 1022”, so pieces belong to the limited run but are not individually numbered in sequence.
At AED 43,660, it is AED 24,355 below the steel-and-platinum model. It also has the largest production run, although 1,022 pieces worldwide still makes it a limited release.
Steel, platinum and black lacquer: PB0178121B1X1
The middle edition retains a steel case but adds a platinum bezel and a high-gloss black lacquered dial. It is limited to 315 pieces and uses an 18k red-gold rotor rather than the steel model’s rhodium-plated component. Its AED 68,015 UAE price is 55.8% above the all-steel reference.
This is the subtle material upgrade of the trio: platinum changes the bezel’s weight and appearance, but the watch remains visually less overt than the full red-gold version.
Red gold and natural onyx: RB0178131B1X1
The flagship reference uses an 18k red-gold case, buckle and rotor with a dial cut from natural black onyx. Breitling says it is the brand’s first use of the stone. Unlike the other two casebacks, each of the 250 examples is individually numbered.
The UAE price is AED 173,325—almost four times the price of the steel watch. That premium is not simply for scarcity: the case, folding clasp, rotor and stone dial are different. Natural onyx can also show subtle variation, so product photography cannot guarantee that every dial will look identical.
How the Aston Martin DB5 appears in the design
The DB5 references are concentrated in texture and proportion. A wooden inner ring recalls the car’s steering wheel; the “squircle” chronograph counters echo period dashboard gauges; and the hand-coloured brown strap is intended to resemble the depth of classic automotive upholstery. Grooved case corners and mushroom pushers retain the 1960s Top Time language.
The collaboration has a real historical link. The Aston Martin DB5 was introduced in 1963. Two years later, Sean Connery wore a modified Breitling Top Time ref. 2002 alongside the DB5 in Thunderball. The watch was the first Q-modified timepiece in the James Bond film series, according to Aston Martin’s official launch announcement.

Which edition makes the most sense?
Author’s perspective: I own a Breitling, so the attraction of this release is not abstract to me: the brand is particularly good at putting a modern manufacture movement inside a design that still feels connected to its history. I had also been hearing about this collection’s regional arrival before publication. That first-hand perspective informs the analysis here, but it does not establish current stock, future value or the size of the UAE allocation; those points must be checked with Breitling.
The steel AB0178121G1X1 is the straightforward choice if the design and DB5 story matter more than rare case materials. It delivers the same Calibre 01, water resistance, case size, strap concept and dashboard details for the lowest price.
The PB0178121B1X1 is for buyers who specifically value platinum, a black lacquered dial and the tighter 315-piece run. The RB0178131B1X1 is a different proposition: natural onyx and extensive red gold make it the material-led collector piece, not merely the most limited colour.
None should be bought on scarcity language alone. Try the 41mm case, confirm the live UAE price and warranty terms, and ask the boutique to identify the exact reference on the order.
