Salik Dubai 2026 — What It Is, Which Roads Have Tolls & How to Top Up

Salik is Dubai’s electronic road toll system — if you drive in Dubai, you’ll encounter it. The system is automatic, cashless, and charges AED 4 per toll gate pass. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Salik 2026 Dubai version, including which roads are tolled, how to register and top up, and what happens if your account runs out of credit.

    How Salik Works

Salik uses RFID technology. A Salik tag — a small sticker attached to the inside of your windshield — communicates with readers mounted above the tolled roads. When your car passes through a toll gate, AED 4 is automatically deducted from your prepaid Salik account. There are no barriers, no stopping, and no physical payment. By the time Salik Dubai 2026 arrives, expect the system to remain just as seamless and efficient. If you hire a car, the rental company will handle Salik — but you’ll typically be charged a daily Salik administration fee of AED 5–10 regardless of whether you use a toll gate that day.

Salik Toll Gate Locations in Dubai (2026)

Dubai currently operates 8 Salik toll gates across the main arterial roads. In 2026, Salik Dubai locations may expand to additional parts of the city as well.

    • Al Garhoud Bridge — between Deira and Bur Dubai over Dubai Creek
    • Al Maktoum Bridge — between Deira and Bur Dubai (parallel crossing to Al Garhoud)
    • Al Safa — Sheikh Zayed Road, between Al Safa Park and Safa Park area
    • Al Barsha — Sheikh Zayed Road northbound near Barsha
    • Al Mamzar South — on the main coastal road heading towards Sharjah
    • Al Mamzar North — second gate on the Sharjah approach
    • Jebel Ali — on Sheikh Zayed Road south of the city
    • Airport Tunnel — the underground tunnel passing beneath the airport

How to Register and Top Up

For residents: Register at salik.ae or the Salik app. A new tag costs AED 50 (includes AED 24 credit). You’ll need your Emirates ID and vehicle registration card. Top up via the app, website, bank transfer, ATM, or at petrol stations across Dubai. Also, registration for Salik in Dubai 2026 is expected to follow the same procedures but may include new features.

For visitors with rental cars: You don’t need to register personally. The rental company handles Salik and will bill you after return — check your rental agreement for the applicable daily charge.

What Happens If Your Balance Runs Out

Salik requires a minimum balance of AED 50. If your account falls below zero (which can happen if your balance is exhausted), AED 100 fines apply per gate passage with a maximum fine of AED 400 per month. If you plan to use Salik Dubai 2026 frequently, keeping an AED 100+ buffer will help you avoid issues. You’ll also be unable to renew your vehicle registration (Mulkiya) until any outstanding Salik balance is cleared. Keep an AED 100+ buffer — the app sends low-balance alerts when you set them up.
