It’s confirmed: Swatch and Audemars Piguet really did team up. After the MoonSwatch frenzy, Swatch’s Royal Pop launched globally on 16 May 2026, democratising an icon and marking a genuine turning point in accessible haute horlogerie for UAE collectors. Here’s exactly what it is, what it costs, and how the Dubai launch actually played out.
The Teaser Campaign That Called It Right
Swatch’s pre-launch campaign included mysterious newspaper ads and a video teaser flashing “Royal” in Audemars Piguet’s font, followed by “Pop.” Eagle-eyed collectors noticed the vibrant, colourful straps looked more suited to a neck accessory than a wrist — correctly predicting that the collaboration would take the form of a pocket watch, reimagining the iconic octagonal Royal Oak shape.
Royal Oak: Luxury Icon Meets Mass Market
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, designed by Gérald Genta in 1972, is a cultural icon and ‘grail piece’ starting from AED 110,000. Former AP CEO François-Henry Bennahmias praised high-low collaborations for “educating the younger generation about the icons of watchmaking.” This provides a rationale for a mass-market version, despite potential brand integrity questions. A pocket watch format could safeguard the original’s exclusivity.

MoonSwatch Success Sets Precedent
Swatch’s ‘high-low’ strategy saw phenomenal success with the MoonSwatch (Omega) in 2022, democratising the Speedmaster at AED 1,000-1,200. It sparked global queues and cultural impact. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collaboration, however, received a muted reception. The Royal Oak’s recognition positions this new collaboration to potentially recapture MoonSwatch-level excitement.
Confirmed: Royal Pop Launched 16 May, Priced at AED 1,530
The wait is over. Royal Pop launched globally on 16 May 2026 as an eight-piece bioceramic pocket watch collection, powered by a manually wound SISTEM51 movement with a 90-hour power reserve and the same antimagnetic Nivachron balance spring found in several seven-figure Audemars Piguet timepieces. Officially priced at AED 1,530, it is available in the UAE exclusively through Swatch stores at Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall.
Demand in Dubai was so intense that the Mall of the Emirates launch event was cancelled outright due to crowd size on launch morning, echoing chaos at Swatch boutiques worldwide. Grey market resale prices in the UAE have since climbed as high as AED 12,600-12,968 for the most sought-after colourways — a pattern consistent with the 2022 MoonSwatch (Omega), which resold in Dubai for up to AED 20,000 against a roughly AED 950 retail price.
The Design, Explained
Rather than sitting on the wrist, Royal Pop takes the form of a modern pocket watch — strap-free, designed to slip into a pocket, hang from a calfskin lanyard, or sit inside a dedicated receptacle that converts it into a desk clock. It carries the Royal Oak’s signature Petite Tapisserie dial and octagonal bezel secured by eight hexagonal screws, in a 40mm case (8.4mm thick, expanding to 44.2mm x 53.2mm once clipped in). Two styles were released: Lepine, with the crown at 12 o’clock across six colourways including Green Eight, Huit Blanc and Ocho Negro; and Savonette, with the crown at 3 o’clock and a small seconds subdial, including Lan Ba and Otg Roz.
